AD LIBITUM
Beyond Proof
Sanjay Sethi
15 November 1994 | Volume 121 Issue 10 | Page 814
A need to believe
in beyond what I perceive.
A need to exist
beyond this conundrum of life
and death.
But,
logic and reason
nurtured by years of
randomized controlled trials
and statistical probabilities
demand
proof.
Using one's mind
to save lives.
And then
to tell the mind that you
are hindering my salvation;
that all you see and know is
a mirage;
that what is true is
beyond you.
Daily encounters
with sickness and death.
Wonderful people suffering.
Hard to fathom that
divine grace
is guiding, underlying
it all.
To be condemned to be
the highest animal
temporarily at the pinnacle
of evolution.
Life,
are you really so mundane?
