LITERATURE OF MEDICINE

Reviews and Notes: Modern Methods of Clinical Investigation

1 February 1994 | Volume 120 Issue 3 | Page 254

Modern Methods of Clinical Investigation

Annetine C. Gelijns; ed. 222 pages. Washington, D.C.: National Academy Press; 1990. $24.95.

Eleven expert papers on various methods for assessing outcomes, especially those associated with new technical methods in diagnosis or treatment. Papers most likely to interest clinicians who do not have a mathematical background are Mulley's on decision analysis in assessing outcomes with clinical innovations and Thacker's on meta-analysis. Most of the other papers will appeal to third-party payers and policymakers in government.
